"Rouge Noir".Confessions.

"Rouge Noir" Hat by "Anya Caliendo.Couture Millinery"
When I was 17, I fell in love with the boy. His name was Tito and both of us, at the time, were in Germany, spending 2 weeks of our Summer in International Youth Summer Camp. I usually never use this word when describing a man, but Tito was absolutely gorgeous. He was from Italy and did not speak a word of English. I did not speak  a word of Italian, of course. :-)
Despite the fact that neither of us could speak each other's language we understood each other instantly. We spent all out time together: we went to the movies, we held hands, we went for a walks, we kissed.:-) Tito played guitar and I could not stop thinking about him. Just before he left to go back home, as a farewell gift, he gave me a dark red rose. It was such a dark, rich shade of red, it seemed almost black...
The memories of that Summer became an inspiration behind "Rouge Noir" hat I designed for my Atelier. It is made out of silk tulle, combination of three different types of silks  and french vintage veil. Here you see one of the dolls modeling it.:-)
She is wearing vintage beaded coat by Dior and clear crystal ring by Lanvin. The memory of this Summer is, probably, one of the happiest memories I have of my teenage years. I never forgot Tito and you can find the rose he gave me between the pages of Marcel Proust book on my shelf. It is as beautiful as the day he left to go back to Italy, just maybe a little flatter and drier.:-)
I know now that  memories of the past often become a source behind creation of my hats. "Rouge Noir" is very special to me. Two days ago a lady walked in my Atelier and was ready to buy it, but I refused the sale. I simply could not part with my "Rouge Noir." :-)
Do you have a very special memory that you treasure for years?

Anya, this is such a wonderful story full of romance, nostalgia and youth. I find that I have many such moments whether they be big like a first romance or small like the first glass of champagne I had (I still have the cork from the bottle).

This is the perfect incarnation of your rouge noir! I am glad that you did not sell. You have given your memory a fresh ne perspective!

Have a wonderful day!

Ow, what a beautiful and romantic story! And the way you translated it to life is breathtaking. This must be one of my favorites of your work!

Unfortunately I don't have this "movie-like" story to tell.

Merry Christmas, btw :)

Anechka, I can honestly say that this hat is now among my most favourite hats you've ever made! I adore it.
It was also wonderful to see what the coat looks like on and it's so different from its previous photo you published some time ago. I love it even more now. Such a masterpiece!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend, darling!

Anechka, I just read your comment and it put a huge smile on my face! :) You are so adorable with this "gazillion of pounds"! :))) And you are so lucky to be able to have some workout equipment at home! I wish I could have a running machine... I think having proper machines at home makes life a little easier, especially, if you are busy or the weather isn't inspiring for getting out (just like what we are having at the moment... LOTS of rain)
Oh, yes! Also wanted to thank you for following my baby blog! :) It's lovely to see friendly faces and know that you come and read my blurb. :))) I will definitely keep you posted about that workout I am doing now. Unless, of course, I die in action. :)))

Sending you a big hug and lots and lots of kisses.

Dearest Anya,
Aren't we so lucky as artists to have the ability to turn our most cherished memories into art? I too have many beautiful memories that have inspired one creation or another! I just love your story! Thank you for sharing with us, Dear Friend!

I am so, so happy that you liked the pin so much! The first one I made was one for myself and it is very much like the one I sent you! I will have the first line of them posted to my Etsy shop on January 15th! Today, I am constructing a tiny purple couch where I will display them to take pictures!! I cannot wait for you to see the rest!!

Wishing you a wonderful weekend! I also look forward to another year of friendship with you!

xo,

Betty

Anya,

I got chills all over my body when I saw this hat. When I read the story, I got even more chills. You strike a cord with me as I am often very sentimental and nostalgic of memories of the past...and it's so beautiful that you bring them back to life in your work. I think this might be my favourite hat you have made yet....and it is styled so beautifully on this gorgeous model! There aren't any words to describe this hat, but the best I can do is elegance, beauty, sensual, glamourous, and a dark sense of romance....it is stunning Anya and I wish to own it as well!!! :)

Your sweet comment to me meant the world! Thank you for every word and for making me smile always. :) Oh and I so wish I could take you with me on my trip, I can't think of a companion I would like to share it with more! :) Have a wonderful weekend. ♥

xoxo

Oh Anya, I love the mystery and romanticism of the black veiled hat. It is so sensual. And it is befitting the memory of your love.

Simply beautiful. I love the idea that something can be so deep red that it's black. That summer sounds magical, you'll never forget it. I can completely understand you not wanting to sell the hat- it has too many precious memories attached to it.
Amazing post :)

Ahhh, so romantic! Does this evoke jealousy in your 'current man'? If so, you can always say it's all for the art! xoxo

Аня, я просто в шоке...
Лично я бы за эту шляпку даже подралась бы!
Причем, это особенность вашей работы. Видишь новую шляпку и кажется, что она -- предел совершенства.
А потом вы делаете новую, ещё более роскошную!

Lovely story Anya, beautifully told.
Marvellous creation (as always).
I wonder what became of Tito?
Although, maybe it's better not to know.
Thanks for your concern regarding my bout of flu - I'm on the mend and hope to be a little more productive soon.
