Sapphire Tuesday For Me! :-)

The highlight of this New York Fashion week for me? So far, it was waking up to a personal e-mail from Anna Dello Russo telling me that my hats are: "AMAZING". :-))) There was some other stuff in Anna's e-mail too, but I will keep it a secret for now.Thank you, Anna! Also  I am looking forward to one of the parties I am invited to tonight for one of the New York designers.
I have decided to wear this beautiful Prada shoes and my "New York Blues" hat  and I do not care how cold it is outside! Something to be said  for the party in the beginning of the week. :-) So yes, it is a Sapphire Tuesday for me filled with sparkles.
I will keep it really short today.:-) Wishing you wonderful Tuesday and, please, check back on Friday. I am preparing to launch the most spectacular Give Away ever and you do not want to miss it!

Walking On The Dark Side With St.Valentine. :-) My Atelier Valentine's Window Displays.

Knowing that my next post will come only next Tuesday, after the Valentin's Day, I decided to wish you a very Happy Valentine's Day with this post. There comes a time in  one's life when sugar hearts, pink cupids and heart shaped boxes of chocolates, displayed everywhere, leave you feeling bored and  uninspired. And so, when planning for the Valentine's Day window displays, I decided to draw my inspiration from the novels of immortal William Shakespeare and famous 2002  "Romeo And Juliet" Vogue editorial.
I have decided to name red display  - "Love Potion". The idea of being infected with passion always appealed to me: I suppose William Shakespeare would be the first one to tell you that intense Love and Passion are always key ingredients to the most beautiful love stories and the most disastrous human tragedies...
I  had so much fun choosing apothecary jars for the displays. :-) I filled them with beautiful silk velvet and sating and added Lacroix brooches and loose gems to give it more sparkle...
You tell me if I did a good enough job.:-)))
This sapphire-emerald display I decided to name "Love Poison" - try a drop and be poisoned, surrender to the power of Love.
I filled that blue apothecary jar with painted sugar and sequins and put vintage poison labels on it. It reads: "Lead Sugar" and "Corrosive Sublimate" - sound almost like a medieval spell!
So, yes, this time I am waking on the dark side with St.Valentines. What a wonderful age to be in love. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you!

The Forgotten File. On The Set.

Today I thought I would share pictures from the "Forgotten File" with you. This are the photographs from the sets of two of my Collections with all the wonderful, talented people who worked very hard behind the scenes to bring my hats to life. :-)
My fantastic team of photographers Ed and Olga who were with me from the very beginning, from the very first Collection "Je Ne Regrette Rien" in 2008.:-)
Model Tatiana is getting ready to be transformed into a doll for my third Collection "The Secret Lives Of Dolls."
Ed working with my best friend and model Irina on creating the best shots for "Anna Pavlova" Hat on the set in St.Regis Hotel in New York.
We had so much fun working in St.Regis between wardrobe changes, unexpected approaches, new ideas, make up changes, champagne and 1a.m. spectacular dinner.:-)
Model Sara is patiently waiting for the dress to be, finally, fitted.:-)
Charles, brilliant make up artist, is working on the model's make up...
Wardrobe is all over the place. It gets a little messy, but makes it even more exciting. Here you see fabulous Cavalli skirt resting comfortably on the bed in St. Regis Hotel.:-)))
  Photographing "Anna Pavlova" hat.
 Photographing "La Parisienne"
 Turban practice.:-)))
Fabulous mess in preparation for photographing the editorial for "The secret Lives Of Dolls"
    Working on photographing "Russian Winter."
We always end up having so much fun, laughs and silly moments which, I believe help entire team get through several gruelling hours on the set. The photo shoots always go well into the night because everybody wants to make sure that we did the best job possible.
My favorite shot of Ed at the end of the photo shoot in St.Regis.:-))) He is one of the most phenomenal photographers I know. You can see more of his fantastic work at http://www.zorzstudios.com/  :-)

Wearing "Black Swan" Hat.

Photographed by Ed Hafizov of Zorz Studios for my Atelier.
It is my great pleasure introduce you to my new creation by the name of "Black Swan" inspired by Natalie Portman's haunted Prima Ballerina in  the movie "Black Swan". What a great, powerful, intense performance... I simply had to recreate my impressions of it the only way I knew how - by designing a hat. If you didn't have a chance to see "Black Swan" yet, I strongly recommend that you do. I will leave the business of writing movie review to the professionals and, instead, will concentrate on the hat "Black Swan".
It was one of the most difficult, demanding, labor intense and mechanically challenging hats I have ever designed. At one point it had to be suspended off the ceiling so that I could work on the bottom part of it...But despite all of it, from the first stitch and to the last  it was labor of  shier love.
I enjoyed every minute of working on "Black Swan", sculpting  the 3D  bodice, , wiring the upper extention of the bodice, inserting the core into the bodice of the hat, embroidering the bust line, making sure that everything lined in perfect proportion so that the hat is actually steady and wearable and light!
I have used the finest fabric I could possibly find - delicate silk tulle, French silk velvet with a bit of sparkle, Chantilly lace, hand made silk rose courtesy of Legeron Atelier and French vintage veil and shimmering gold lace...
The end result is beyond my most ambitious expectation and I noticed that "Black Swan" has an amazing effect on everybody who walks in my Atelier - people are immediately drawn to the stand and usually spent considerable amount of time just observing every single detail, often in disbelief that it is actually a hat!
" Black Swan" is even more dramatic in person and I am already thinking of how and where I would wear it. :-)) . Looking forward to another Apollo Circle Benefit Ball next Fall in Metropolitan Museum of Art. It would be a perfect place to do something crazy like wearing "Black Swan". What do you , guys, think? :-)
I have to admit, I got seriously carried away with embroidery and detailing - 4 weeks of production time! I felt like I need another 4 arms. :-)
I am wishing you fantastic weekend! :-) I am loking forward to closing the doors and working all weekend long on the several orders. Nothing makes me more happier. :-)

Divine Hats Of Haute Couture Spring 2011.

From the dramatic hats, reminiscent of strokes of paint, of Stephen Jones for Galliano's Dior Haute Couture 2011  to controversial helmet-hats designed by Philip Treacy for Givenchy - I thought Haute Couture Spring 2011 Season was full of divine hats. I am still deliberating which Collection holds #2 place in my heart. #1 is always Dior :-) . The idea of fragile woman-warrior vs. woman-muse (Givenchy), full of romance and  melancholy,  made my mind wonder all the way into Japanese culture of Samurai warriors. Armani Prive hats reminded me of something of outer space, very unusual considering previous Armani Prive Collections.
I have to say, that  Jean Paul Gaultier's punk couture head gear had me absolutely over the top in love with his Collection. He IS, after all, the most anarchist of all Parisian designers! This post is dedicated to the divine hats of Haute Couture 2011. Enjoy spectacular images!:-)
