We never really grow out of Fairy Tales. I find that in my personal work I often get inspired by the beautiful stories of my childhood. "Little Red Riding Hood" is one of my most favorite fairy tales, right next to the magical stories by Hans Christian Andersen. In Fashion, the theme of "Little Red Riding Hood" continues to live on in various interpretations whether it is Vogue editorial styled by Grace Coddington or series of fashion drawings courtesy of many artists and fashion addicts. I wanted to create my own version of Little Red Riding Hood for a very long time now. The problem with the execution of the design I had in my mind was very specific kind of fabric. It had to be rich, shimmering, plush, in very deep shade of red. It had to be magical. For the longest time I could not find the "it" fabric no matter how hard I searched or how many stores I visited. Even though New-York is housing gazillions of fabric stores in the very heart of the Fashion District I felt none of them had what I was looking for. Last year, however, I came across very rare type of silk velvet manufactured in France. It was a small cut of 3 yards only and I was told that this are the last 3 yards of this type of velvet and the fabric will never be manufactured again. The minute I saw it - I knew that this is going to make fabulous "Little Red Riding Hood"! I got the entire 3 yards, paid an arm and a leg for it, but to me it was well worth it. The final result is here and I am happy to share it with you. Designed in my Atelier (just like all the rest of fabulous hats I publish in this Blog) and photographed by Ed Hafizov. This hat is a like a little jewel. It is "Little Red Riding Hood" all the way. :-)
